“At 50 %” is the run time at half load, from the manufacturer. Method: how we calculate.

FAQ

How do I size a standby generator?

Add up the watt-hours of what must run for the outage, divide by 0.79 for inverter and depth-of-discharge losses and add a 20 % reserve. Then check that the output covers everything running at once plus the largest start-up surge. The calculator does this per appliance; the formulas are on the How we calculate page.
